A pro-Iran hacking group claimed responsibility for an eBay outage that began Sunday and said it will “continue to rapid fire assaults and destroy their backends” if the group’s demands went unanswered.

“We are prepared to offer them a simple way out, but they are yet to oficially [sic] contact us,” The Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq – 313 Team posted this afternoon on their Telegram channel while not elaborating on any details of their demand.

The group has been relentlessly targeting American companies with DDoS attacks, claiming mid-month that it disrupted Bluesky with what the social media site called a “sophisticated” attack. They also claimed to be behind a mid-March Microsoft outage and took credit for hitting the X platform at the end of the month, and also have claimed attacks on Amazon Prime Video, Dropbox, Yahoo, AOL and more sites.

On Sunday afternoon, 313 Team said it “executed a massive cyberattack targeting the servers of eBay,” claiming “complete disruption of key website and application features, such as search and login functionality.” By that evening, another Telegram post announced “an escalation in the intensity of the offensive, targeting additional segments of eBay’s infrastructure.”

One post directly addressed eBay: “There is a simple way out. We have emailed you with our Session Contact ID. If you fail to reach out, we will continue our assault. You are losing money by the minute, stop being fools.”

An announcement on eBay’s site today told sellers, “We’re aware that some customers have been experiencing intermittent technical issues since Sunday on parts of the eBay platform. We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this.”

The company said it would protect sellers from “negative or neutral feedback related to the intermittent technical issues” and issues with shipping metrics. “If you had an auction end after April 26, 12:01 pm PT, which you feel was impacted, you have the option to cancel the order and we will protect your seller performance and refund associated selling and ad fees,” the statement added.

Downdetector showed peaks in user reports on Sunday and again this afternoon.

313 Team said this afternoon that they took down eBay’s Japan site, which showed an error message as of this article’s publication. They subsequently posted a message to sellers from eBay Japan’s X account: “Currently, our company’s system is experiencing issues related to connections and authentication, which may prevent you from logging in or using certain functions. We are currently working to identify the cause and implement recovery measures. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and kindly ask that you please try again after some time until the recovery is complete.”

“This glitch stems from a cyberattack executed by the Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq – 313 Team,” the hacking group claimed.
