FAA suddenly drops unprecedented air restrictions over El Paso
The Federal Aviation Administration issued unexplained notices late Tuesday closing airspace over El Paso and a large patch of southern New Mexico west of Santa Teresa for 10 days. El Paso International Airport is closed to all flights, the city said.
Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-El Paso, said her office has been told there’s no imminent threat to El Paso.
The orders close off all air travel in the affected areas, which could cause massive disruption in the nation’s 23rd largest city. The orders barring even law enforcement, military and medical evacuation flights in a major urban area for 10 days appear to have no precedent in U.S. aviation.
