Wrapping up the Munich Security Conference, chairman Wolfgang Ischinger pointed to tensions around Greenland as a reminder that allies have red lines that cannot simply be brushed aside.
“Our friends from Denmark and Greenland reminded us that if you cross certain lines, it cannot be ignored, and it must be taken into account,” he said in his closing remarks. At the same time, he argued the gathering showed renewed unity across the Atlantic. “We saw a spirit of resolve to hold those lines,” he added, referring to the transatlantic alliance.
But Ischinger warned the conference must translate into policy: “What we need now is more than a series of speeches. What we need now is a plan, is action.”
