Nation-state threats put small and medium-sized businesses in their sights

Nation-state actors have increasingly set their sights downmarket, targeting small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), especially those who supply goods and services to larger companies.
SMBs typically do not focus on cybersecurity and often they have little idea of their critical role their organization may play in the supply chain, says Eric Chien, a cybersecurity fellow for the Symantec Threat Hunter team at global technology firm Broadcom. While larger companies rightfully worry that attackers are coming after them, the latest data shows that attackers are increasingly targeting smaller firms as well — a message that Chien plans to amplify in a presentation at the RSA Security Conference next week.
