Forescout reports OT threat landscape shift as hacktivists, nation-state actors target critical infrastructure

New data from Forescout Technologies reveals that attacks against OT (operational technology) environments are increasing as opportunistic threat actors, including hacktivists, are scanning and striking vulnerable OT environments indiscriminately.

Iranian groups continue to play a significant role, forming a persistent threat continuum focused on OT and ICS (industrial control systems) environments.

Modbus has emerged as the most targeted OT protocol, accounting for 57 percent of honeypot interactions, up from 40 percent in 2024.
