Global air traffic control organization warns of targeted phishing campaign
The Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) has warned members of a phishing campaign targeting the organization. CANSO is a global association of the companies that provide air traffic control and it represents the interests of Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) worldwide.
The organization said it is aware of fraudulent emails being sent to some of its members, purporting to come from CANSO staff. CANSO said the messages may look genuine and may include wording such as: “Dear Valued Member, we have sent the 2025 membership invoice; did you receive it? If not, kindly revert back to us to resend the 2025 membership.”
The messages are part of a phishing scam designed to obtain payment. CANSO is taking steps to address the scam and recommends that the emails are not replied to, that no attachments are opened and that no payments are made. The emails should also be reported to [email protected].
While many of the attempts have originated from email addresses that are clearly not from the organization, CANSO warns that the criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated and may attempt to spoof email addresses so that messages appear to come from @canso.org.
