Russia’s alleged spy network puts Italy’s cyber defense hub under scrutiny

An Italian investigation into an alleged Russian intelligence network has turned the spotlight on one of the country’s most sensitive military cyber facilities: the Interforce Cyber Training Center in Chiavari, in the Liguria region, which trains personnel responsible for protecting government communications and critical digital infrastructure. 

Italian prosecutors are investigating an alleged espionage network linked to Russian intelligence operating in Liguria. Investigators believe the network sought information on military activities, naval exercises and defense technologies developed in the region. 

What is happening reflects broader concerns about cyber espionage and hybrid threats targeting NATO countries’ critical infrastructure.
